CALL FOR PAPERS
The second day of the conference seeks to encourage critical discussion on a number of relevant themes relating to opportunities, challenges and obstacles faced by the digital libraries applications that support an increasingly active role of the user communities.
The Call for Papers invites authors to put users and communities at the centre of digital libraries design and development. Considerations may also be addressed to the improvement of collaborative tools introducing new capabilities for cooperation, knowledge creation, and collective intelligence.
Recently digital technology has enabled the creation of large-scale digital contents, which has considerably increased knowledge about, and access to, several kind of online resources: in the digital environment the distinction between records, exhibitions and collections appear to diminish and the boundaries between Archives, Libraries, and Museums are blurring. The opportunity of a convergence of ALM must be evaluated, considering strengths, weaknesses, risks and benefits for users and organizations.
The new emerging paradigm of participative knowledge production and access is currently profoundly transforming most areas of our life: it also raises a strong need for careful reflection on how people may be involved in defining new prospective sustainable policies and responsibilities for long term preservation of digital heritage.
Preference will be given to authors presenting coordinated experiences among projects, institutions or expert groups.
Topics to be addressed within the Call for Papers are:
The evolution of the Web and collaborative tools:
* Cooperative web tools: opportunities and limits for the cultural heritage sector
* Users and cultural content production on the Web
* Users' access to the digital heritage in the Internet era
* Psychological aspects of acting in the social-cultural Web
Humanities computing:
* The organisation of knowledge in a digital environment
* ALM towards a convergence of techniques and cultures
Long term management of digital memory:
* Appraisal and long term preservation policies
* Responsibility for long term access of web resources
* Economic/organisational models for preservation
PROPOSALS SHOULD INCLUDE:
* Title, authors and outline of the paper (no more than 300 words)
* Contact, e-mail address, telephone/fax numbers of authors
* Name and affiliation of presenter (one of the authors of the paper)
* Short biographical statement regarding the presenter (one of the authors of the paper)
All the selected papers will be published on the official documentation and proceedings. The authors of the best ten papers selected by the scientific committee will gain the possibility to attend the event free of charge.
IMPORTANT DATES AND INFORMATION:
Proposals for papers must be submitted by June 15th, 2009 (Please send an email to info at rinascimento-digitale.it )
